Scanned Image - Unit 24

This is the image that i have scanned in. The images above are quick sketches which i did before i made the photoshop versions. The reason i did these images was so that i could get a good idea on what type of design i wanted.

FOOTBALL SHIRTS -

These are the football shirts i designed in Photoshop. The shirts are for a football team. A football club logo was also designed by my partner.

The football shirt designs consist of two different designs. One for the Home strip (The dark one) and one for the away strip (the yellow one).

DESIGN BRIEF -
A new football club starting out want a fresh new kit for their new season. They also want a new team logo which can be used on the strip as well as posters, their website and anything else they wish to show it on. The two shirts both need to be totally different colours, and the colours are to be chosen by the designer although green, blue or pink colours must not be used due to other teams in the league having similar colours. The strips must be attractive and must be eye catching. Both kits must contrast with each other. The team sponser "Netto" logo must also be placed on the strip, we think also possibly that the strip could match similar colouring to the sponser, even if it is just one strip. The strips must be tasteful, uncomplicated but not to bland.

DESIGN BRIEF RESPONSE -

The football shirts will be designed by tasteful colours and will also have the team sponser presented on the front of the shirt. The shirt colouring of one of the shirts will match the sponsers logo colour, although the alternative strip would have to be different.

P6 explaining potential legal implications of using and editing graphical images

When editing graphics its important to know the legal aspects doing so. When editing images its important to sum up whether what you are doing is legal and in no way infringing someones copyrights. When creating a logo or a poster for instance, its important to make sure that the images used are that of the person who creates the logo or poster or, they have recieved the rights from the person whom owns the image/s which are used.

If a business uses an image without the persons whom owns it permission then they could be liable for damages to the owner and they could get sued. Even if an image which is owned by someone is edited, for instance changing the colours or even changing things around, the image is still copyrighted by the original owner.

24.2 Review Partners Idea

The idea that Liam came up with was very good. The logo was very unique and is very different from other football logos. The logo is eye catching and easily catches the eye. The logo states clearly the name of the football club which was needed to be shown clearly on the logo. The colours of the logo work well the colour of the strip. The colour of the logo is mainly black with red corners, this works well with the strip as the strips main colour is black. The other colours on the logo are also good and work well with the base colours. The white glow which is shown around the football strip on the logo is well chosen and draws more attention the middle of the logo.

The logo overall has been well prepared and has been made well with suitable colours and shapes which make the logo proove to be attractive but at the same time neat and presentable.

24.2 - P3

Unit 24 Logo Design:
The people who are responsible for running and managing Unit 24 for IT Graphics have asked for a logo to be designed to represent the Unit and and what it contains. They have asked that the logo has the name Unit 24 shown boldy as that is the main focus for the logo, they have also asked that "digital graphics and computers" is shown somewhere on the logo front. The client also wanted an image present somewhere within the logo, an image which would have to be related to digital graphics or computers. The logo and text would have to be merged together to make the logo whole in this sense.

EnCert is a new company providing Energy Certificates to homeowners. 'Greener' houses are more desirable and the Energy Certificates form part of the Home Information Pack (HIP). All houses for sale with 4 bedrooms or more must have a HIP. (See the scheme of work for an example Home Information Pack) Encert require a logo for their website and letterheads. EnCert needs the logo to look professional and make the clients to associated it with energy (gas, electricity etc).

An organic mobile fast-food service has requested a roadside sign. It will be used on a stand so when its van is parked in a lay-by offering quality burgers and all-day breakfasts, passing motorists will notice it. This sign is to be in full colour and must be eye-catching .

ENCERT -

EnCert need a logo which can be used for there company, the logo will be used all around the company including such things as letterheads and their website. The logo needs to be presentable and suitible for all types of persons who sees it. It also must be associated with gas and electricity, so colouring may have to be taken seriously during the preperation. Wording needs to be plain, this logo will be used all over the company and will be representable for that fact.

2) The logo i will create will be simple but sharp, something which looks proffesional and well made but clean also at the same time. The logo will not be busy and will be plain but to the point. For a business it is important to make sure the logo is plain and simple but also eye catching as well, such shapes as ovals and rectangles will be used during the planning. Sqares will not be used, square logos are very hard to implement into things such as websites and letter heads due to the outstanding shape they are.

Blue and red will be the primary colours due to their nature to the gas, oil and electricity industry. Yellow may also be used although white maybe a better option to help keep the logo simple in colour and not to cheap looking.

UNIT 24

The people who are responsible for running and managing Unit 24 for IT Graphics have asked for a logo to be designed to represent the Unit and and what it contains. They have asked that the logo has the name Unit 24 shown boldy as that is the main focus for the logo, they have also asked that "digital graphics and computers" is shown somewhere on the logo front. The client also wanted an image present somewhere within the logo, an image which would have to be related to digital graphics or computers. The logo and text would have to be merged together to make the logo whole in this sense.

2) The logo will be simple and sharp but also eye catching. The logo will incorperate varied colours and a few different styles of text. the logo will include basic shapes including the base shape a rectangle. The text and the number 24 will both differ in size and style, the 24 will probably be alot more pretruded and will stand out more to symbalize more of a difference betwen Unit 24 and other units.

KSI PHARMACUTICALS

KSI Phamacuticals have asked for a brand new logo for their company. Their logo will be used on their website, their products and booklets or leaflets which are handed out to the public or other businesses. They have asked the logo to include green colours, as well as bold text which can be noticable by people from a distance. The logo must include the full company name "KSI Pharmacuticals"

2) The logo will stand out as requested, this will involve careful consideration of the fonts and colours used although the colour green has been notified as a favourite. Bold text will be used for the title of the logo which will include the full name of the company. Dark colours will be used also to make the logo stand out but not in a way that it will stand out to much from the current website or company colours.

Posters for Coffee Shop and BTEC IT course

Shown below are the two posters which i did, both based around two different subjects.

THE COFFEE SHOP
When making the poster I used several ways to make sure that everything on the poster was layout properly and neatly leaving no room for mess or error. The first thing I did was to do the title text, this took sometime but when included along with the mug of coffee beans on the right hand side it seemed to look good.
The text though at first after being typed seemed to clash a bit with the mug so I added a stroke with a the colour white on a 1pxl distance. This meant that the text would not clash with the mug but would still look good and neatly presentable. After this I decided to add some more images, I added the coffee beans shown to the bottom right along with the black board and the strawberries. The strawberries then had the white background removed by using the magic eraser tool which automatically removed the background with one click.
After I had arranged these images to my liking I added the background image of the women, this image was resized to fit the page. The coffee beans on the bottom right though at this stage looked to apparent so I faded the edges of the image by using the eraser tool on a large pixel ratio.
After this was done, I added several rectangle shapes so that text on the poster could be presented properly. The shapes were organised in a fashion of which would be suitable for the poster, along with a few of the shapes being decreased in opacity to make them between 50% -70.
After this I managed to enter some text onto the image which said a bit about what the college coffee shop was about, I then finally added some larger text which helped draw more attention the poster and help fill in empty spaces. All of the layers on the psd were arranged so that the image placement of each one looked good and didn’t look misplaced or awkward.
The womens face on the main background image was edited using the curves tool as well to change the lighting as well as the main working being done using the hue and saturation settings.
When using the images I used some images from the digital camera, whilst other images were found on an stock image website.

Activity 24.2 // Upgrading a digital graphics computer system

Intel Pentium D 'Dual Core X2' CPU (5.3 Ghz)
VIA Chipset 1066 Mhz Motherboard - slots available: AGP8x (1), PCI (3), RAM (2); ports available: LAN (1), USB (6)
512 MB RAM
80 GB HDD (SATA300)
18X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer & Dual Format
onboard UniChrome PRO 3D Graphics with 64 MB shared memory
mouse and keyboard
15" flat screen
cheap inkjet printer (P2)

The following upgrades i would make to the system are as follows -

Intel Pentium D 'Dual Core X2' CPU (5.3 Ghz)
VIA Chipset 1066 Mhz Motherboard - slots available: AGP8x (1), PCI (3), RAM (2); ports available: LAN (1), USB (6)
2GB RAM
320GB 7200RPM SATA-II HARD DRIVE
18X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer & Dual Format
onboard UniChrome PRO 3D Graphics with 64 MB shared memory
mouse and keyboard
15" flat screen
cheap inkjet printer (P2)

First of all i would improve the ram so that the computer will run quicker when executing programs like Adobe Photoshop. Image editing programs usually use up alot of memory ram due the mass amounts of processing that the software does when executed. The RAM is a very important thing which needs updating as without this then certain image editing programs will not work. Especially high end image editing programs like Fireworks which take up alot of memory ram when processing, saving and opening very large image files. Another thing which is important about having enough ram is that the ram has to be powerful enough so that it can cope with the processing of the large hard drive.

Another main thing which would need upgrading when using the chosen computer for image manipulation is the hard drive. The hard drive before was very little and the space would surely decrease over a short amount of time. Improving the hard drive of the computer would mean that the computer would be able to save more image files over a longer period of time.

(2)
There are alot of limitations to the current computer system. Firstly the Intel Pentium D 'Dual Core X2' CPU (5.3 Ghz) is far to powerful for the PC which means 1 it is a waste of money and 2 it will not work with the other computer conponents well enough due to its mass difference in quality. This though is a very fast conponent can when image editing comes into the scene it means that images can be loaded faster and everything done when editing an image runs alot more smoother rather than just having a single core processor, a better option though would be a Intel 3.0GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor, this isnt as fast but it will still do the job and make the computer extreemly fast without wasting money unessecery. The cost difference between the two processors is alot. The first processor which was said to be unreasonable would proberbly cost around £500-600 although the one which would be more ideal was found out to cost around £298 which is a massive saving considering the use of the processor and its abilities.

The screen needs to be alot bigger, a 15" screen is not enough for a person who is editing images or working with graphical documents. The optimal screen size for someone working with images is 19" or higher. Dual monitors can also come in handy when editing alot of images and multi-tasking. A poor quality monitor found was a BenQ 15 Wide TFT Monitor which is without a doubt unsuitable for editing images and other types of media processing. This type of monitor is priced at around £35-40 which may seem a good price but it has a poor resolution of just 1280 x 720. The contrast ratio of the monitor research was 400:1 which is also quite poor for the actual monitors purpose.

A more suitable monitor size though is a 19" monitor for instance, whether it be widescreen or not. A resonable priced monitor i found was a BenQ G900D which was priced at £109. The spec though on this monitor was alot more purposeful with the screen size being alot more bigger and more adequete for viewing images in a larger size for instance.

The maximum screen resolution on this monitor appeared to be 1280 x 1024 which was alot more than the previous model, mainly due to its screen size.
the monitor though did have a much greater contrast ratio found to be 800:1 typically and 2000:1 dynamically which is a much more great improvement.
